McMahon Galvin Celebrating 50 years

We are delighted to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.

Set up by Conor McMahon in Dame Street on Sept 2 1970, and in the early days of the business Tom Galvin joined Conor and named the company ‘Conor McMahon and Galvin Ltd’. They moved soon after to 59 Amiens St where the business remains trading today.

The original business was based on contacts in Dublin city centre which were the areas that Conor had initially had a portfolio of policyholders for the Hibernian Insurance company.

After Tom joined we became a countrywide organisation and this remains the model today.

The fundamentals of the business have always been the provision of a high level of service to Personal customers for Home and Motor Insurance and also to provide a one stop Insurance solution to business owners.

These pillars have allowed the business to flourish to an organisation that today employs over 20 people dotted throughout the county.

Conor and Tom retired from the business in 2002 but still remain in touch with the current management team and the same ethos and service standards set then, still apply.

We have always sought to make the customer the centre of our business and to always strive to act in the client’s best interest. To enable us do so, we ensure all of our teams obtain refresher training and at a minimum each Insurance Broker is asked to carry out 15 hours Insurance Product related training to ensure we stay fully appraised of the options and changes in the Insurance market. We are delighted that the bulk of our Teams are also with us for a long time a significant number for over 20 years and that has allowed us to offer you the personal service that clients have become used to.

We appreciate this celebration would not be possible without your support of our business – some of you are clients since the very early days and we really do appreciate the support and loyalty. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our success and who has contributed to our business over the last 50 years. We would like to thank our dedicated staff (past and present), our panel of Insurers, our clients (past and present) and everyone in our fantastic network who continually support us. You have all played a huge part in us hitting this 50 year milestone.

We won’t be celebrating the way we had planned with everything going on at the moment with Covid 19 and again thank you to our staff and our clients for supporting us and bearing with us as we navigate through these strange times.

Whatever the next decade brings we do promise that you can expect the same level of commitment and service that allows us to remain unique and authentic and we will continue to do our best for each and every one of you as a thank you for helping us to get to where we are today.



As part of our service to clients we have seen significant challenges in the Professional Indemnity and Directors and Officers Liability markets, particularly for construction related and financial services firms. Insurers are increasing rates, reducing capacity and aggregating limits where each and every claim limits were previously available. This was happening pre Covid and has accelerated due in no small part to Covid. It is important that we all engage early to complete the required renewal proposal forms and provide any and all ancillary information that supports your health and safety, quality control and governance credentials

This will allow our brokers to search this limited insurance market on your behalf.

Lloyd's Brexit Transfer

Lloyd's is proposing to transfer certain EEA insurance policies to Lloyd's Brussels. The proposed transfer will not change terms and conditions of any policy, except that Lloyd's Brussels will become the insurer and the Data Controller in respect of the transferred policies.
